Licence Changes Opposed
5 April 2007
The National Gamekeepers' Organisation today condemned changes being proposed by the Scottish Executive to restrict the control of pest birds north of the Border.
In a forthright submission sent in response to a public consultation, the NGO said it was 'unimpressed' by the proposals which, it argued, could seriously interefere with game management and shooting.
Among the changes opposed by the NGO are:
- A proposed ban on amateur use of Larsen Traps
- A proposed ban on taking three species of gulls
- Significant changes to the legal basis of woodpigeon shooting
- A proposed ban on the use of sights when shooting pest birds
An NGO spokesman said, "There are some ridiculous and ill-thought out suggestions being made which have to be stopped."
