Dog Ideas Cause Concern
10 March 2010
The National Gamekeepers' Organisation has expressed concern at aspects of the Government consultation, launched this week, on the future of legislation concerning dogs.
An NGO Spokesman said,
"It may well be that changes are needed to improve on the Dangerous Dogs Act and nobody supports those who keep dogs which threaten other people's safety but we are concerned by the suggestions that all dogs should be microchipped and insured."
The NGO said that gamekeepers and others who use dogs as part of their work could face new costs that did not appear to be justified by the risk.
"We will be examining this new consultation very carefully in the coming weeks and making a considered response to Defra. If we think it could cause problems for gamekeepers and our supporter members we will be making that quite clear."
The Government's consultation can be viewed on the Defra website: www.defra.gov.uk
