Golden Shoot Results

26 April 2010

The NGO's 'Golden Shoots' were fantastically supported this year and a huge thank you must go to the estates that enabled us to run them and particularly to the teams of volunteers without whom we could never manage to put on these flagship events.

The 2010 Golden Pheasant  was this year held at Boughton Estates, near Kettering, Northamptonshire by kind permission of the Duke of Buccleugh. Graham Osbourne and his team put on a brilliant layout on and a very successful day was enjoyed by a record 172 entrants.

The eventual winner, of the Golden Pheasant trophy was John Lee, shooting an excellent 96! Competition was very close, with the ever consistant Tony Thomson coming in 2nd with 95. Last years winner, Nick Beavis was 3rd with 94. The high standard was kept up in the Supporters class, when James Lacey shot an 89, Micheal Russell was 2nd with 87, and D Knight took 3rd with 85.

Mark Foxley was the victor of the under 21's with a very creditable 81 - narrowly beating Tom Keyzor with 80. N Skinner took the 3rd place award at 74. John Cockaday  won the Veterens class again, with an 86 and T. Ramm repeated last years victory in the Side-by-Side class on 84.

Another repeat victor came in the form of Charlotte Marrison, winning the ladies with 62. J Tansley narrowly missed out with 61 and third was Kay Gibson with 44.

The Golden Grouse was again held at Middle End Farm, many thanks to The Earl of Durham and Raby Estates. Last year's winner Andrew Morrow designed an excellent layout, taking a lot of inspiration from the Sporting world.

Very testing simulated grouse combined with high pheasants and driven partridge challenged a record 202 competitor.

The Golden Grouse trophy was won by Gary Shepherd from Gunnerside with a score of 88. Andrew Hall and John Maughan  both shot 84, but Andrew took second place  on count back. Brewis Gair took the High Gun and the Supporter's title with the only score in the 90s - a 92. Second in the Supporters class was Les Rushworth 89, and Frank Lowerson was third  with 86.

Mrs Lowerson (Emma) took the ladies title with 79 - she was one of very few people to get boss of the Grouse Stand. Evlyn Gibbs was second on 52 and Charlotte Marrison took third with 46.

The under 21 class was closely fought but was won by J Reay with a 77, M Bennett was second with a 75 and Ben Wearmouth took third on 74. Bill Grey was first in the Veterens on 81 and Graham Vessey  was the winner of the Side-by-Side class.

Once again, it is impossible to quantify the importance of the many NGO helpers at these events. Thank you so much to everyone.
