Pesticide Use Must Remain Practical

The NGO has urged the Government to keep the rules on pesticide use practical and proportionate in a response sent in to Defra this week.

New EU regulations, which have to be implemented in the UK by 2013, will require the training of all who use pesticides as part of their professional work and look set to catch gamekeepers, who up till now have been largely exempt.

The NGO said it accepted that training was inevitable but urged that it be 'light-touch' and proportionate. "We do not relish yet more bureaucracy but as a responsible organisation will work with the authorities to help produce something workable and straightforward for our members," said Lindsay Waddell, the NGO Chairman.
