The NGO are disappointed that Natural Resources Wales have decided to recommend that Welsh Ministers add pheasant and red legged partridge to Section 9 of the Countryside and Wildlife Act. This follows a recent consultation where the public overwhelmingly spoke out against this proposal.

NRW have confirmed however that only a small number of the over 42,000 responses were taken into account, claiming that many of them did not fit the specific consultation questions, and were therefore discounted.

The NGO are taking immediate legal advice to protect the interests of our members and all those who have an interest in game management activities.

The Welsh Government seem to be hell bent on the destruction of Welsh traditions, wildlife and rural workers. It is worth bearing in mind that the value of shooting in Wales is worth some £75million to the economy and provides the equivalent of 2,400 full time jobs.

If Welsh Ministers do decide to act against public opinion, the proposed legislation change would come into effect for the 2024/25 season.
