His Royal Highness Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh

Liam Bell, Chairman of the NGO, said: “We are saddened to hear of the death of His Royal Highness Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh.

“During his lifetime, His Royal Highness was a constant supporter and promoter of the value of game shooting for conservation.

“HRH enjoyed game shooting and he will be missed hugely by those organisations of which he was patron, including the Game & Wildlife Conservation Trust and the British Association for Shooting and Conservation.

“He highlighted issues of wildlife conservation on the world stage and was the first president of the World Wildlife Fund. Undoubtedly, the promotion of these issues will have had an influence on expediating the need for greater protection of species and the way we view the importance of environmentally sensitive land management.

“He also attended Game Fairs throughout the years and had a real passion for many country sports. The Duke of Edinburgh Awards will have introduced many to the joys of being outdoors and learning more about the countryside and that is a fantastic legacy to celebrate.”
