The National Gamekeepers’ Organisation will draw on independent scientific evidence to demonstrate the biodiversity and community benefits of responsible gamebird releasing as Wales undertakes its new Call for Evidence.

Following the Written Statement by Huw Irranca‑Davies MS, Deputy First Minister & Cabinet Secretary for Climate Change and Rural Affairs, announcing an Independent Call for Evidence on gamebird releasing in Wales, the National Gamekeepers’ Organisation (NGO) will reiterate the substantial environmental and community benefits delivered by responsible shooting and game management. These include enhanced habitat creation, improved biodiversity outcomes, and support for red‑ and amber‑listed ground‑nesting birds and other vulnerable species.

Last year, the NGO commissioned the Game & Wildlife Conservation Trust (GWCT) to undertake a comparative risk assessment examining the potential impacts of removing, reducing or delaying game management activities on designated species. The NGO will draw on the findings of this report to robustly challenge any proposals that seek to limit or restrict gamebird release in Wales.
